Today Kalam – Kal ‘aam’

Well, when I started writing my first blog I was pretty excited. However trust me, when I think about this blog forget about being excited, it takes me to an emotional low. My title would have given you people an indication so as to what I am up to this time.

For the benefit of non-hindi readers, I would like to explain what “Kal ‘aam’” means (which I have put in the second part of my title). In hindi ‘Kal’ means tomorrow and ‘aam’ means ordinary. Yeah today he is the First Citizen and tomorrow he is just another citizen.

Well it is not that I want Mr. Kalam to be the "Permanent President” as some of our politicians like to call themselves. But there needs to be some dignity to be maintained folks. Come on
Firstly, it is about the PRESIDENT OF THE COUNTRY for God sake. It can become an object of ridicule for media of other countries.
Secondly, any disrepute to that post is a complete disregard and disrespect to all of them who had honored it before.
Thirdly, we are dealing with a person who is an intellectual genius. Frankly speaking I don’t know whether I am grammatically correct when I say ‘intellectual genius’ but I just want to use it against Mr.Kalam because he is one.
I can go on up to ‘Nth ‘ly…

HIS TENURE
Unfortunately in India, president just remains a rubber stamp. He has no major commitments that a common man can actually associate himself to and assess. His role restricts himself to passing the Special bills that are ALREADY passed in the Parliament, reconsidering whether death penalty to be given to the convicted for DANGEROUS reasons, Keep standing with the guest during RD….oh yeah not to forget giving speeches before RD & ID in Doordarshan, where that too he has to read the script that runs in the screen in front of him!!!

I mean no offense or my intention is not to hurt anybody’s sentiment. It is just that I feel the country is hurt with the proceedings.

Inspite of this not-so-interesting job profile, I feel Mr. Abdul Kalam has done which other Presidents of yesteryears never did.

Being the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Defense Force he made some gestures which are not only worth mentioning but also to be much-admired.

On April 02nd 2004 President A P J Abdul Kalam made a historic visit to the Siachen glacier, becoming the first President to visit the world's highest battle ground to meet the jawans over there and give their morale a much needed and long awaited boost . Siachen is not only the pride of Indian army but also the biggest threat as it is faces pressure left, right and centre from both our neighbors on left and right!!

Not only that, it made him First ever Head of a state or any Government to visit Siachen. He commended the efforts of the soldiers in standing guard in such inhospitable conditions.
Well is that it, NO. Feather on the cap or icing on the cake or NAME IT AS YOU LIKE IT on June 08th 2006 from Pune Airbase he did something that was unbelievable. He flew on a Suhkoi -30 MKI combat aircraft for more than half hour. Now that’s a sign from the Head of the Indian Defense. Has any of the Defence Miniser done this before?? Well am sure this feat is going to remain for a long time to come, untouched.
Well does flying an aircraft or being at the world’s highest battle ground, gets one a shot at Rashtrapathi Bhawan a second term? He has something which I believe some of his predecessors never had, the support from the citizens- a thorough green signal.
He leads the millions of youngsters with his speech and achievements. He is considered to be the perfect role model for all the youth. He inspires them with what ever he does.
And it is distressing, disgraceful, and pathetic, to be said kindly, to know that the politicians have just given a cold shoulder to the interest and stand out choice of all the citizens.
WHAT DOES FUTURE HOLD FOR US???
And in return what are they offering us,
A lady who has been blamed, as of now, having involvement in a default in payment of bank loan!
A gentleman who’s son in law is said to be involved in some nonsense to which I didn’t pay much heed to during today’s news !
SOMETHING TO CHEW THE CUD
Here’s something for you to think about, I have two questions. One is Serious and the other on a lighter note

1. ARE THE CITIZENS OF INDIA FOOL ENOUGH NOT TO HAVE THE RIGHT OF CHOOSING HIS/HER OWN FIRST CITIZEN??
2. IF BUSH HAS SECOND TERM, CANT KALAM HAVE ONE???
WELL BY THE WAY, I leave it to you to choose which one was the serious one and which was not.

Liked the title and what you wrote... but unfortunately blogs and common people like us do not have the right to choose the President!

Simply stated... we do not deserve a man like Dr. Kalam as our president.. have you ever know a gang of dacoits led by a honest man?
